Current Volunteer Opportunities:
STARS Program
STARS Drivers – To provide transportation to seniors, to and from medical appointments, grocery shops, and/or social events for clients, as dispatched by the STARS Coordinator
Social Prescribing Program
Friendly Visitors/Group Friendly Visits – A friendly visit creates lasting, meaningful relationships between seniors and volunteers. With regular visits, isolated seniors experience improved physical, mental and emotional health and gain a more positive outlook. No clinical care is required. Your role as a friendly visitor volunteer would be to provide friendship, support and stimulation in the lives of isolated seniors.
Community Connection Courier – Involves picking up donated items from community locations and delivering them to clients in need. This role is not needed frequently—requests typically come in about once a month—but occasionally, they may be urgent. It requires a volunteer with access to an insured vehicle who can handle light to moderate lifting when necessary. Professionalism, care and reliability are essential for this position.
Meals on Wheels Program
Casual/Back up Drivers – To pick up and deliver hot or frozen meals to clients living in their own home, who because of illness or disability, cannot prepare adequate meals for themselves. Looking for people who could be “on call/back up” when regular delivery drivers aren’t able to make their volunteer shift for unforeseen reasons.
Better at Home Program
Weather Warriors – Providing help to seniors in the community when extreme weather hits. We are looking for able-bodied people who would be willing to: drive, drop-off groceries, do personal check-ins, snow removal, meal deliveries or other small acts of kindness for seniors in Chilliwack who may need assistance when the snow starts to fall. Also, back up drivers for Meals on Wheels food deliveries in case other drivers are not comfortable to drive in the snow.
