Language Assessment Center

Immigrant Services is an official CLBPA (Canadian Language Benchmark Placement Assessment) and CLBPT (Canadian Language Benchmark Placement Test) site, licensed by Achēv and the Centre for Canadian Language Benchmarks.  The CLBPA and CLBPT assesses your ability to listen, speak, read and write English.

The CLBPA is for federal programming and the CLBPT is for provincial programming.  These tests are for people who do not have English as a first language and who wish to register in federally or provincially funded language or job training programs such as LINC, Skills Connect, Health Care Aide or Early Childhood Educations programs. These assessments cannot be used for citizenship purposes.

LINC: Language Instruction for Newcomers to Canada

FREE ENGLISH INSTRUCTION IN MORNING AND EVENING CLASSES.

    • September to June
    • Immigrants 17 years and older
    • Application and assessment required

Childcare

For morning LINC students with children 19 months to 5 years, qualified staff provide culturally sensitive and developmentally appropriate care.  The benefit of having childcare on site is that newcomer parents are connected with community services and specialized child development services that they may not have known were available or needed.  As Childcare space is limited, referrals and assistance with Affordable Child Care Benefits can be arranged.

Drop-In Conversation Circles

Outside a formal classroom setting, learn and practice speaking English.  This language support is available to all immigrants including visitors and other newcomers who do not meet the qualifications for our LINC classes or on a LINC waitlist.
